Why Praise GOD
There are questions in our life which we won't
get the answer, the unanswered questions in our life. Yet we do the same thing
knowing not what we do. Praising God is one of them!!!
If you're asked why praise God, then what would be your
answer? Very often we reply because He's done so many things, He's done this,
He's done that... however unanswered.
Psalmist
says in Psalm 103:1-5 "Praise the
LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD , O
my soul , and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and
heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with
love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your
mouth is renewed like the eagle's " (NIV )
We ought to
praise the Lord with all our soul as we read in Mark 12:30 "Love the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind
and with all your strength"
Human
beings are created with three components: body, soul and spirit; body is
visible, we can touch and feel whereas soul and spirit are not. Soul contains
mind, thoughts, ability to decide and so on. Thus we ought to praise the Living
God with our soul, when we think, decide, talk, play and above all in all our
ways.
Here are
few things I just want you to know why should we praise God. Meanwhile with our
inmost being, whether that is personalities or character, or behaviour, what
ever it may be, let it praise His holy Name.
v.1 says, all
my inmost being; we must praise Him
with all we can, with our everything, the things visible and when we are alone
at home , this both should praise God.
We know He searches much deeper within through the way things appear He
looks into our heart, however, what if our things visible are not blessing Him?
Therefore let us praise Him with all our being.
V.2 forget
not all his benefits; we are
bestowed with the blessings and benefits which indeed we were not worthy to
deserve. Besides, some gets the benefits and blessings like healing, peace,
job, study etc but forget the Lord along with the blessings. For example many
attend the healing crusade conducted frequently and get healed but they fail in
continuing the fellowship thinking that is ultimate. Meanwhile they are just like
a man who just have glance on the hoarding board without going to the fate.
Therefore he wouldn't be able enough to reach the destiny if needed to go. But Word of God strictly warns us not to
forget the benefits but continue to praise Him.
What benefits He's given us so that we are not supposed to
forget but continue to praise Him? Here are few benefits He's given us,
therefore we praise Him, and at the mean time we are not to forget it but
continue to praise Him:-
1)
v. 3a says, who forgives all your sins: - Romans 3:23 reads "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (NIV). God's intention for us was not to be
sinners but to be cleansed. When He made the first man he was sinless,
eventually he committed sin and fall short of the glory of God. Thenceforth
every body are sinner, no matter whether he is a new born baby or the one
doomed to death. Therefore, we the sinful people couldn't approach the Living
God who is Holy.
The first benefit He's given in our
life is forgiving all our sins. Thus we praise Him. Romans 6:23 reads "For
the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord". As for the consequences of the sins, we ought to
die, as the wages of sin is death, not just a punishment, its death. Some may
think the sickness, trouble, suffering, hardship are from the sin we commit,
but its not so. For the wages of sin is death. Nevertheless God demonstrates
his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Thus, we are forgiven.
Let us continue to praise Him for
the benefit i.e. forgiveness that He gave us.
2)
v. 3b says, and heals all your diseases: - In the earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ
He healed many diseases. He healed the blind (Matthew 20:29-34), He healed the paralytic (Mark
2: 1 - 12), He healed a deaf and
mute man (Mark 2: 31 - 37) and many more. In the same manner our Lord Jesus is still
healing us spiritually and physically too. That is why we praise Him for the
benefit of healing. Many are spiritually and physically sick and don't know the
benefit of healing, therefore they don't praise God. Remember that if we are in
the later condition we need to get rid of it and know the fact of healing.
As I illustrated before, some forget
the benefit of healing too, just attending the healing crusade and leaving the
Living Lord forever. For the person like that Word of God strictly warns not to
forget all his benefits. But continuing praising Him. The second reason or the
benefits for praising Him is because of the healing.
3)
v. 4a says, who redeems your life from the pit: - We do sing a song, "Lord I stand in the midst
of a multitude" during worship where we come across the line saying
"We are Your people redeemed by Your blood ". We are redeemed by His
precious blood which He shed in the crucifixion. We were once blind and
sentenced to death in the bottomless pit, never ending... however, we were
reckoned redeemed from the very pit only through Lord Jesus Christ. We see many
Godly people in the Bible who were redeemed literally from the dungeon, such as
Joseph, Jeremiah and so on. This pictured all of our redemption from the pit.
So, why not we praise God if we have the benefit of the redemption.
We see in the Bible, Lord Jesus
Christ redeemed many such as Lazarus (John 11:38ff) from the pit of death, who was laid behind the stone
for 4 days. He redeemed the death girl
and a sick woman (Luke 8: 40 ff). He redeemed demon possessed (Luke
8:26-39) and so on.
Psalmist too was redeemed as we look
into the context of this psalm, it was written doubtless by David as the
confession of his sin in his higher sense of preciousness of pardon as in the
younger days for the keener sense of sin. He redeemed the life of David, yet Lord
took away the life of his first born through Bathsheba (2
Samuel 12:18). Despite the loss David
didn't forget the benefit of the redemption thus he could praise God.
4)
v. 4b says, and crowns you with love and compassion: - The forth reason for praising God is the benefit
of honour and glory. Psalm 8: 5b also reads, " ... and
crowned him with glory and honour."
The man is crowned with the glory and honour because when He created man, He
created him with the specialities : They are
·
Genesis 1:26 (Let us make man....):- We see Royal Plurality while creating the man. The active involvement is
seen as we read 'us', which means the involvement of Trinitarian figure.
·
Genesis 1: 24- 31:- Created in sixth day. Whatever man needs to exist it was created
beforehand, therefore I can boldly say I have everything I need because I was
created in the sixth day, and the needed things are already created.
(Read Psalm 139:13)
·
Genesis 1:26:- Created in the Image of God. He didn't create animals in His own image or any
other creatures but man are created in His own image. Thus we contain freedom
of choice, mind, soul, body, feeling, etc...
·
Genesis 1: 26, 28-30:- Imparted Responsibilities. We are imparted with the responsibilities such as to
subdue, look after, multiply and so on. During the incident of Babel Tower (Genesis
11) people forgot their
responsibilities of subduing it; looking after the creation thus they focused
just on building the tower of Babel. Eventually, Lord scattered them from there
over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
In
the same manner He's crowned us with the love and compassion thus we praise
Him.
5)
v. 5a says, who satisfies your desires with good things: - He is still the same God who provided ram to Abraham
for sacrifice (Genesis 22:13),
so we believe He is our Provider. Genesis 22: 14 reads, So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide.
And to this day it is said," On the mountain of the LORD it will be
provided. It is not merely a name of place but still the attribute is the same.
Even
the earthly father knows to give us the best thing despite being imperfect, how
much more and the good thing does our Heavenly Father give us who is perfect?
Definitely He satisfies our desires with the good things. Jesus first showed
the miracle in the wedding ceremony at Cana in Galilee by providing the needs
in the wedding family by converting the water into wine (John
2: 1- 11). Likewise He still is
fulfilling the needs of every God's children as He promised to give since we
ask (Matthew 7). Jesus
fed the Five thousand in the shore of the Sea of Galilee (Sea of Tiberias) as
He is the man of compassion, seeing the crowd with the eye of giving (John
6). The multitude was
filled with the good things here.
Let
us continue to praise Him for He's given us the other benefit; benefit of
provision.
As
to terminate the word I just want all the readers to take the challenge to
praise Him all the time. Some may be other haven't received the benefits as I
mentioned above. Nevertheless, we are who to question God saying why haven't
you ever filled me with the blessings? Therefore, as we know the fact that He's
the Lord our next step towards God is to praise Him where we go, whatever we
do, whatever we say, whatever we act.
